Queensland Academy for Creative Industries

QACI provides teaching facilities for students gifted in the performing arts within a multi-storey building including a three-hundred seat theatre, classrooms, administration areas, a library, indoor and outdoor cafe areas and break out areas. Quark Automation provided a bespoke lighting control solution to not only meet with Section J requirements and contribute towards a building Green Star rating, but also one that is practical, functional and flexible for the administration, teachers and students across a broad range of daily applications and special events hosted by the Academy.

Queensland Academy for Science, Mathematics and Technology

The Academy uses Clipsal C-Bus™ to control the significant lighting used throughout the facility. Chosen for its reliability and ability to deliver energy savings, Quark Automation designed and delivered a solution allowing the Academy to minimise their energy costs and greenhouse emissions. The sound planning and design techniques used have resulted in a lighting system which saves time (requiring a minimum of interaction), is user-friendly and energy efficient.

Big Brother ’05

Reality TV Show Big Brother has become a household name and top rating reality show for Network 10 for the last five years. With Big Brother 2005, Clipsal® C-Bus™ technology was once again witnessed by a prime time audience.

In a case study interview, the Quark Automation team shared some of the features installed in the House. "In previous Big Br other installations we’ve had basic lighting control and scene lighting. This year we incorporated most of the new C-Bus&trade ; and C-Bus™ Wireless products to complete the entire product solution. Everything from the new "C-Touch™ Colour&qu ot; Touch Screens to the C-Bus™ Wireless Plug Adaptors in the bedrooms which were controlled by the DLT switches".

Unique to series five of Big Brother was the integration of the wired C-Bus™ technology with the new C-Bus™ wireless products. The C-Touch™ Colour Touch Screens provided an easy to operate user interface, with customizable pages and buttons th at were set up to suit the Producer’s requirements.

For example:
Bedrooms – Controlled bed lamps with wireless plug adapters being switched locally via a DLT (Dynamic Labelin g Technology) switch located on walls and bedside tables.
Diary Room – Diary Room glass sliding door was opened with CTS (Colour Touch Screen)
Dance Floor – Lighting under dance floor could be controlled via a CTS in dining area, giving Housemates acce ss to change the sequence of lights from chase to static.

Foremost in the improvements made for BB5 was the use of new wireless technology to control various lighting, working in conjunct ion with the wired C-Bus™ components. Over 250 lighting scenes were integrated.

Clipsal® Integrated Systems has an extensive range of innovative products. These include C-Touch™ Colour Touch Screens, C-Bus™ Wireless products and Dynamic Labeling Technology (DLT).

Although the Big Brother set was an unusual home environment with amazing lighting features, many ‘family’ homes now feature impressive architectural lighting requirements where a home automation system such as Clipsal® C-Bus™ offers many great benefits.
